What is Eco-Schools?

The Government in England wants every school to be a sustainable school by 2020.  Eco-Schools is an international award programme that guides schools on their sustainable journey, providing a framework to help embed these principles

into the heart of school life.

There are 3 awards to earn:

The Bronze Award was earned in March 2008

The Silver Award was earned in March 2009

The Green Flag was earned in May 2010

Have a look at our Action Plan at the bottom of the page to find out the projects we will be working.

What have we done so far?

Improved the school grounds by building our school garden

Building our school garden in 2007

It is amazing what you can grow!

Picking runner beans.

"Look at the size of this one!"

Tasty!

Proud gardeners

Gardening club work very hard

Planting pansies

What shall we do next?

Can you believe it?

Biodiversity - finding out about minibeasts!

The school grounds - improving the quad

It was covered in moss. A lot of the plants were overgrowing or dead.

We used to keep PE resources in here and it was very untidy. We did not like using the quad.

Isaac Allemby's grandad pruned the trees and pulled out the weeds.

He also made some fantastic edging for the flower beds.

We had to clear the old plants.

It was very cold!

Now, we like using the quad to help us learn.

Mr Brown's class used it to do observational drawings as part of their art topic

Litter picking

We have a big problem with litter around the school grounds.

The Eco-warriors try their best to pick up as much possible.

Most days they come back with a whole bag full of rubbish!

Where does it come from?

Another bag of litter. We found it on Monday morning so it must have been left over the weekend.

Out and about collecting the fruit waste.

So much litter!

The Eco-warriors found this massive bit of plastic in the wildlife area. It was about 2 metres wide and had very sharp edges. It was very dangerous!

Where had it come from?

Another day - another full bag of litter

Where had this metal pole come from?

Biodiversity

During the winter months we put out bird food to help the birds survive the cold.

Some bird feeders are in the wildlife area and some are near the bungalow.

We use wild bird food.
